Although some of the rules are the same, or broadly similar, some changes have been implemented. This is a brief summary of the new rules.

Top Tyre Tips

Last year tyre failures accounted for approximately 30% of the breakdowns that we attended at the roadside and we believe that many of these could have been avoided. Below are some tips to help you look after your tyres and avoid unnecessary breakdowns.

The key points for horse box owners are:

Inspect your tyres for damage and wear before you set out on your journey.

Ensure tyre pressures are regularly checked and inflated to the correct pressure.

Carrying a serviceable spare that can be removed can often reduce delays and avoid extra cost.

It's a fact of life that horseboxes do sometimes break down.

As one horsebox owner puts it: "When I bought my first horsebox, I was told by a friend that I would break down at least once a year with some small problem, no matter how well my vehicle is looked after." She is a member of Equine Rescue Services, and has been extremely happy with the service she has received when she has broken down.

The main reasons why horseboxes break down are:

Understanding A Motorway Breakdown - And Keeping Safe

An average of 250 people are killed each year on motorway hard shoulders, but many incidents could be avoided if basic rules were followed.

While there are many different reasons why drivers need to pull over, the subsequent environment can be fatal. The primary cause of such accidents is fatigue and loss of concentration. Tired drivers focus on stationary vehicles on the hard shoulder, imagining they are following that vehicle, until it’s too late and collision occurs.
