The Broadley family from Ripon, North Yorkshire have often thought about breakdown cover for their horsebox, but like many people thought that if they were unlucky they would be able to manage. They have owned their 10 year old horsebox for 4 years and it has always been reliable and served them well.

However, on Saturday 15th August they were due to take part in an event 6 hours from home and whilst looking through Eventing Magazine came across an advert for Equine Rescue Services. They decided to call in and joined over the phone. As they were due to travel that day they were given the emergency number but advised that they would only be covered on a pay on use basis for the first 24 hours.

After an extremely successful weekend, with Mr Broadley being placed in the competition, they started their return journey home on Sunday evening. Approximately 3 hours from home whilst on the M6 they experienced what appeared to be a problem with their gearbox. After attempting to continue their journey with some difficulty they decided to get off the motorway, and pulled into the nearest lay-by where Mr Broadley called our emergency number.

The Equine Rescue machine as usual swung into action, and Mr Broadley, his wife, three children, three horses and the Jack Russell and their horsebox were rescued and returned safely to their home.

When telephoned a few days later by our Customer Services Team, Mr Broadley was full of praise for the service received. He commented:

"The service was absolutely excellent, we were over the moon with it. We just could not believe that we had the misfortune to break down, and without your cover it would have been a complete disaster. At 7pm on a Sunday evening we would have had absolutely no idea who to call. From the prompt response of the mechanic, to the regular updates from your control room, to the wonderful horsebox sent to recover our horses, all aspects of the service gave us complete reassurance. My children had a wonderful adventure travelling with my wife and their dog in the horse transport provided, with the friendly owner providing crisps and chocolate to help the journey along.

Now we have experienced how stressful a situation like this could be we will never travel without cover again. If we had paid an annual membership with you for the last 4 years and never used it, we would still have considered it money well spent for the service received on this occasion alone. Thank you."
